When I was a kid, every one used to prick my cheeks and say ‘cute boy’. I used to have a big and chubby cheek. Not just that my cheeks are chubby, my body as a whole was a bit you can say ‘chubby’. As ever one likes to get attention, I too worked hard to maintain my physique and stay chubby and be in the center of attention. Being born in a family which celebrated food, I ate almost all the time and remained chubby. It was all nice till I finished my school.
The big change came when I joined college. Till then I used my weight as an advantage to bully others. But in college, even though I had the same advantage of weight, I saw some thing which I have never seen in my school. For the first time in my life, I had to spend the better part of the day with a creature which I am not that familiar with – girls. Coming from interior part of Tamil Nadu, where talking with girls is a taboo and me being inherently shy, I found my hands shivering when ever I came in close quarters with them.
Out of all the girls I have seen, I found a girl named Renita very attracting. Through out my school days, I was like a cult leader in my group. I used to have opinions for each and every thing and I was usually clear of what I was doing. But that was a boy’s school and we didn’t have many problems other than fighting with the boys from the next class or rounding up seniors and beating them. But this was a completely different problem. Unsure of what to do, I asked my then best friend Guru Moorthy of what I should do.
Now I should tell you guys about Guru Moorthy. He is the only son of his parents. In Tamil, Moorthy refers to light. This name suited him properly as you will need light to look at his face – He is that dark. But he is a real fun to be with and he is famous for his practical jokes. Once he planted a time bomb during his school days using an agarbathi and a fire cracker.
He has tied the fire cracker at the end of the agarbathi and has lighted the agarbathi. As the agarbathi burned and the blaze came down, it ignited the fire work and it exploded with a big bang. It was the time when blasts were happening in Coimbatore. The school management has freaked out because of this small blast in their school and they gave half day leave to the school. Even fire engines and bomb experts were called and they found out this simple set up. Due to Guru Moorthy doing every thing by himself, no one was able to find the culprit and they left the issues go and nothing big was talked about it other than the news coming in the news paper the very next day.
Now as time might have it, he was the first person I talked with when I came to the college and we became thick friends. Being a close friend, I opened up my feelings for Renita to my close friend. He being a great diplomat, directed me that we should not lock up our feelings within our self and like all the Tamil movies, he directed me to directly go to her and express my love for her.
At that time, I was like any ordinary Tamil citizen ruined by cinema. It is a rule in Tamil movie that the hero and heroin will fall in love with each other and what ever the situation may be, the heroin will accept the love of hero. More over most of the movies had college back ground. Me being new to college, and my college being comparatively free college, I started feeling myself as a hero.
I even felt that I have got all the qualities a cinema hero should have. I am studying in a college; I am in love with a girl. What else does a film hero needs? So one fine day, after getting lot of tips from Guru Moorthy, I went forward with a love letter and a red rose in my hand and I told her
“Renita I think I am in love with you”
